REQUIRED QUESTIONS: 1. To critique art, you first describe what the piece shows, the colors it uses, as well as art elements. Then you analyze its components, elements, and art principles. Next, you interpret the story it tells, and what ideas are represented. Finally, you judge it using your opinion of whether or not it was successful.

1. First I planned out a storyboard for the scene. To make the flip book, I got a pack of sticky notes, and drew each frame on the pages. After that I took pictures of each page in a stop motion app, because I couldn’t get a good video of me flipping through it, and added sound. 2. I think that this would have been better if I had more time to work on this, because my drawings were rushed towards the end. I also would’ve had time to add color. Other than that, I think it looks pretty cool. 1. I created a portrait of my brother, Anton.
2. I did a drawing in mechanical pencil, and then I decided to do my final copy in watercolor. 3. I began by sketching my brother, but then I decided to finish the drawing. After that, I transferred the drawing onto watercolor painting and painted him. 4. If I did this again, I'll try to mix the colors better, and do a better job of adding value to the face.
1. Since the in-progress post, I've fired the piece in a bisque fire, glazed it, then fired it again to make it glazeware. It is now finished. 2. I think the wave and the conch shell was very successful. 3. If i did this again, I'd make the box part larger, because the lid and the box are the same size. I also would glaze it more carefully so that the details in the fish and shells would stand out more. 1. This piece shows of the theme of "line" because the flowers are formed from lines, and there is a striped background.
2. This piece was successful because it shows the theme of "line", and all the details from the sketch showed up in the final prints. If I did this again, I would carve more shallow, so the details would be more clear. I would also try to add more detail to the background and carve straighter lines. 1. I used 1-point perspective
2. I took this photo at the USA/Canada border at Ambassador Bridge. I like it because I’m Canadian, and traveling to Canada is fun. 3. I found it difficult to paint straight lines with the watercolor paint. 4. The sunset painting warmup was helpful because it showed me how using too much or too little paint could affect the piece. The hallway perspective warmup was helpful because it helped my figure out how to plan my actually painting. 1. I think the sunset warmup was the most interesting because it shows how to create a sunset and a reflection in water.
2. I like that watercolor is smooth and light, and it’s really pretty. 3. It’s difficult to blend the right amount of different colors to make a smooth transition, but not mix them completely. |
